Penny Purr is a 31 year old Perth (Australia) based rapper, singer and song writer from Whangarei, New Zealand.
In 2014 Penny won the “Perth Raw Artist Of The Year” for her spoken word performance. By 2015, she made the transition from spoken word into music and after working on collaborations with local rapper Bluntfield, Penny began working with local Perth hip hop producers such as Rob Shaker, Uncle Sam and Optamus. Her tracks are inspired by hip hop with lyrical content that includes life experiences often with riddles and punchlines relating to her favourite movies and mythology, her vocals have been described as – unique and sometimes haunting. She has a vast range of artist influences such as Lauren Hill, Eve, Nate Dogg, Snow Tha Product, Prof, Grieves and Kendrick Lamar among many many others.
In 2016 she released her debut EP Welcome To Purrgatory and then went on to release nunerous singles but in 2018 she vanished from the scene for personal reasons. In 2019 she re-released her music and snuck out a brand new EP simply titled Penny Purr, followed by ‘Purrspectives’ an EP produced by Optamus. After returning to live performing her fan base, which she refers to as her ‘children’ who call her Mama Purr, has been raidly growing. Armed with a plethora of unreleased content, Penny has big plans for the future.
